ORIGINALLY CREATED IN
2020
CO-PRODUCERS
Wise Children, Bristol Old Vic & Plush Theatricals
The world premiere of Romantics Anonymous was originally produced by Shakespeare's Globe for the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse by special arrangement with Radio Mouse Entertainment.
The live stream was made possible by the unwavering support of the Broughton Family Charitable Trust and of Paul & Joanna Pearson.
In truly challenging times, the generosity and faith of these donors allowed Wise Children to take the very real risks involved in this project and give this show another life.
The production has also been supported by our champions Faye Clements and Florence Ashman, Ros and Alan Haigh and a number of anonymous angels.
We thank them from the bottom of our chocolate box hearts
INFORMATION
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we broadcast this amazing show live from the Bristol Old Vic. More than 20,000 people saw the show, with tickets sold by 34 theatres and festivals around the world.
This was our first attempt at streaming a full-scale production (we think this was the first fully staged live streamed production during COVID anywhere) to the world, and it was a hit! We were overwhelmed by the audience response. You can see some of it here.
In 2024 we released the live show recording on Spotify.

When Angelique, a gifted chocolate maker inhibited by social anxiety, takes a job in Jean-Rene’s struggling chocolate factory a fragile love affair unfolds.
Funny, tender and painfully awkward, Romantics Anonymous is a delicious love story about breaking the mould and finding the courage to be happy.
This beautiful new musical was first presented at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2017
This production was made possible by the generous support of Paul and Joanna Pearson.
